The City of Toronto and our councillor, Denzil Minnan Wong, are holding an open house to find out what the community wants to do with the land that the community centre was to be built. The community went through this process over a decade ago and the clear answer was a community centre. The DMRI negotiated a settlement at the Ontario Municipal Board 10 years ago for Cadillac Fairview to build a 49 000 square foot community centre. The DMRI, the City of Toronto and Cadillac Fairview entered into a legally binding agreement. The City and our councillor have decided to ignore this agreement and to transfer the money that Cadillac Fairview was required to pay to build the central Don Mills community centre and transfer it to build a community centre at Don Mills and Eglinton.

The DMRI has filed suit in the Ontario Superior Court against the City and Cadillac Fairview. We have a hearing date for a judge to hear this matter on July 8th, 2020. The City is once again ignoring what is going on and pressing forward with their agenda to strip central Don Mills of the community centre and rezoning the land for another use.

The Community should not have to sue the City to get them to honour their word and live up to the signed agreement. If you feel that this heavy-handed behaviour is not acceptable, come to the community meeting set up by the City and let them know that ” A Deal is a Deal! “
