Member at Large: Terry West

dmri-board_TerryWestTerry has been part of DMRI for a very long time – longer than anyone else on the DMRI Board for certain. He has been President for the past 15 years. He is also DMRI’s representative on umbrella groups such as FoNTRA (Federation of North Toronto Resident Associations) and CORRA (Confederation of Resident and Ratepayer Associations in Toronto). DMRI belongs to these organizations because it is often in the interests of Don Mills residents to be part of a larger group when trying to influence the City or the Province.

Terry has been the “go to” person for all matters related to development in and around Don Mills. When homeowners are concerned about an infill house in their neighbourhood, Terry is most often the person they have contacted. He not only meets with the concerned residents but he endeavours to attend CoA (Committee of Adjustment) and, as is sometimes necessary, OMB (Ontario Municipal Board) hearings to review these.

And if that wasn’t enough, Terry is very active with our local food bank. He works on Mondays and Tuesdays to ensure there is food in the bank and helps to distribute the food during the week as well.

He has been a problem solver in the most constructive way. The Shops at Don Mills is an excellent example of this. Through Terry’s leadership the DMRI succeeded in influencing the development of the Shops at Don Mills and the phase 2 development of the Condos on this site. Through these efforts Cadillac Fairview has contractually agreed to build a Community Centre for Don Mills and to maintain the facility for 50 years. This would not have happened without his efforts.

Terry has been honoured and recognized by our municipal and provincial leaders on several occasions in the past.

Terry is an avid dog walker, this helps not only to keep him in shape but gives him a great opportunity to meet and greet the neighbours. Of course, Sharon is his accomplice and partner for all that the West family has accomplished. Terry and Sharon have been married for over 50 years, 3 children and 7 grandchildren making them an admirable and enviable couple and Don Mills has been blessed to have them in our midst.
